Most of us are aware of acupuncture, but the actuality of the matter is that for countless of us, that's as great as our apprehension of acupuncture goes. We know it has to do with sticking needles into our body to help ease the pain. But the impression of needles probably sounds uncomfortable. However, this is not actually the case.
Acupuncture is a section of traditional Chinese medicine. This section of medical method begins with the acceptance that our being is a balance of two diverse yet inseparable forces - the yin and yang.
Along that line of thinking, this applies to everything in the universe. Yin represents forces like the cold, the slow and other dormant forces, while Yang represents heat, excitement and other lively forces. It is a mixture of these forces and the balance among them that decides our physical and mental well-being.
Another keystone of traditional Chinese medicine is the idea of 'chi' (pronounced chee). In the universe, Chi is the life force. In the body, the 'chi' creates and animates life. Everyone is born with a certain quantity of chi and we continually obtain more of it during our lives through air, food, sunlight, and water. The movement of Chi through our body in channels is called meridians. The quality and quantity of chi in our body relies on the state of our physical and mental balance. In fact, if the yin and yang is imbalanced in our body, it restricts the channels through which chi moves in our body. There are twelve significant meridians (channels through which our chi - vital energy- can travel) in our body, eight insignificant meridians and over 2000 acupoints (acupuncture points) which connect these meridians. The procedure of acupuncture clears these chi pathways, therefore ensuring the constant and flow of energy through our body for physical and mental well-being.
